The Sony WH-1000XM6 continues Sony's dominance in the premium wireless headphone market. Released in May 2025, they refine an already excellent formula while adding genuinely useful new features.

Noise cancellation has been improved yet again. The new Integrated Processor V3 analyzes ambient sound 25% faster than the previous generation, resulting in ANC that adapts more quickly to changing environments. In our testing, plane noise and office chatter were virtually eliminated.

The headline feature is LC3plus codec support, enabling genuine lossless audio over Bluetooth. With compatible devices (currently limited to some Sony phones and upcoming Snapdragon devices), you can stream 24-bit/96kHz audio wirelessly. The difference in detail retrieval is audible, though most users will be happy with LDAC.

Sound signature remains the balanced, slightly warm tuning that Sony has perfected. Bass is present without being overwhelming, mids are clear, and highs extend without harshness. For those who want more bass or a different profile, the Sony Headphones Connect app offers extensive EQ options.

Comfort improvements are significant. At 250g, the XM6 is 4g lighter than the XM5. The headband padding has been redesigned with a softer material that reduces pressure on the head during long sessions. The ear cups remain comfortable for extended wear.

Call quality has been dramatically improved with a new beamforming microphone array. Wind noise reduction is particularly effective, making these headphones practical for outdoor calls for the first time.

Battery life reaches 40 hours with ANC enabled—enough for multiple long-haul flights. Quick charging provides 5 hours of playback from just 3 minutes of charging. USB-C charging is standard.

The multipoint Bluetooth connection now supports three devices simultaneously, up from two. Switching between devices is seamless.

At $399, the WH-1000XM6 is priced the same as its predecessor. For anyone in the market for premium noise-cancelling headphones, these remain the benchmark to beat.
